Impractical shopping

Sometimes I'm not the most responsible shopper. In my head I know I should be on the lookout for clothes that are simple, timeless, and go with nearly everything in my closet, but then sometimes I end up in Anthropologie when they're having a good sale and buy a shirt like this one just because it's pretty, without thinking it through at all. Show me a nice pattern and some ruffled shoulders and my heart starts doing a little happy dance. I think my main problem with practical shopping is that it's boring. Sure, there are times where I need to buy jeans, or a plain black skirt, or a dark-colored winter coat, but gosh do I hate it, because even though those are items I'll use over and over again, they're not things that I get excited about. Show me a pair of plain brown heels and my response will probably be, "Meh," but show me a pair of leopard print heels and I'll gush over them and carry on about how I can't live without them, even though they will probably only go with about five things in my closet. Do any of you have this problem? Please tell me I'm not the only one!

  1. Story of my life! I love statement pieces, and the thrift store has so many great ones that it's hard to restrain myself. :)

  3. Oh, you're definitely not the only one. I lost count how many times I tell myself to walk away from something pretty, but will go with only one or perhaps two things in my closet. But you did make the top and leopard print heels work though!

  4. Gorgeous blouse Stacey - I say to hell with the safe purchases, make it the wild stuff every time! Your outfits wouldn't be the same if we didn't have your leopard trousers or coloured tights to ooh and aah over - I love them all :)

Thanks for entering my giveaway btw! Good luck!

  5. Oh no m'dear you are def NOT the only one who shops like this. I am totally guilty of it and, in fact, pre-blogging, this is how I shopped ALL THE TIME. I have since learned to be a little more disciplined (wear vs. price), etc. but the urge to buy a bunch of cool looking stuff still lingers. I love this blouse and the cool high waisted rust cords. Great look!

  6. Haha! Trust me, I have that problem too. It can get pretty bad! Later, I always just try to think if it made me happy to buy it at the time then oh well! Anyways, I love the outfit! Especially that top! Those pants are amazing too.

  7. of course i have that problem! what (fashion loving) person doesn't?? Even though I know that basics with the right accessories can be really chic, I always gravitate towards color and pattern and stuff I can wear maybe once a month with out looking too crazy...

Love this whole look, by the way!

  8. I know what you mean...Anthropologie is most definitely a facilitator of that tendency, too, with their quirky pieces that seem so special and flattering.

That said, I love these impulse buys. I was actually eying that shirt today in a store but put it down. I may have to reconsider!
