Musings on appearances

Wearing this maxi skirt was like wearing pajamas - it's soft and wonderfully stretchy. Over the past few weeks, due to a knee that gives out on me whenever I exercise and some medications that have left me bloated, I've packed on a few pounds in my belly, so I've been trying to wear clothes that make my midsection feel comfortable. And I have to admit, I've felt a little self-conscious about it. You can't really see any extra weight in my outfit photos from the past few weeks, but in person I look like I'm a few months pregnant. And I know it's pure vanity that it bugs me. I mean, who cares if I packed on a few pounds? And would it even matter if I had gained twenty pounds instead of five? No it would not, because my appearance really does not alter who I am inside - and that's the important part, right?

  1. You look fantastic not bloated at all! LOL! I know how you feel though, I have those days too! Love the combination of yellow and black and the polka dot belt is the perfect addition!

  2. Well said Stacey! I personally haven't noticed any difference in your appearance in the past few weeks, but we are our own biggest critics, aren't we? I LOVE your black and yellow ensemble today. That maxi skirt looks uber comfy and the yellow top makes it so fun! Great scarf as a belt as well!

    1. I really am my worst critic - even Josh doesn't think I look like I've gained weight, and he tends to tell the truth when I ask him things like that!

  3. You look amazing! Never noticed any weight gain or difference in your appearance at all. I love the yellow and black combo!

That said, I hear ya on a slight weight gain, as I have added a few pounds recently without meaning to. Way to go on continuing to blog despite maybe not feeling completely up to it. I'm sure that when you are feeling better the weight will come right back off. I know for me, although the weight gain doesn't change who I am, I never feel 100% myself at a higher weight. I'm always more sluggish and clumsy feeling.

    1. Yes, I definitely feel more sluggish with a few extra pounds - that's probably what bugs me the most, not feeling like I'm up to my usual energy level.

  4. I guess when it comes to our size, we need to be happy with it no matter what it is.

    1. I know, the light in that last photo is so great! Josh did a good job capturing the rays of light.

  5. You look wonderful. Few people can pull of bright yellow but you look amazing.

I know exactly what you mean about weight though. When I'm feeling bloated or just heavier it's a lot harder for me to get dressed. No one has ever commented on it and it's probably not even noticeable (it's not on you at all) but I notice and it's a struggle.

    1. Thank you :)

What I really hate about being all bloated is that some of my more fitted clothes really don't fit right now! I miss wearing them :)

  6. I love soft, comfortable clothing. Especially in the summer-- too hot to suffer for fashion!

I've got a knee injury, too, so I know how being off exercise can be :( Have you tried an elliptical or spinning? As long as you don't overdo it you should be okay.

    1. You know, I didn't even think of trying the elliptical - thanks for the suggestion! We have a few of them in the basement of my building, so maybe I'll try that tomorrow.

  7. You look great to me. Love the belt with it!

I am the same way about weight. I think we are just our own worst critic. I would panic if I gain 2-3 pounds but who really can tell but ourselves?!

    1. Thanks, Alice! Really, maybe I should just stop weighing myself for a while - that would probably take away some of the stress of gaining weight :)
