Crazy hat lady

This hat is almost comically huge, but I love it because it means I don't have to put sunblock on my face and neck when I'm out in the sun. (Okay, let's be honest here: I almost never wear sunblock anyway, so basically the hat just makes me feel better about that.) The gigantic hat plus the bold printed dress plus the bright shoes made for an outfit that felt on the verge of overkill, but it also felt very fun and summery. This is one of those dresses that would be improved upon if I hemmed it up about six inches, but I have so many dresses that I've been meaning to hem that I've been overwhelmed into procrastination.

Thank you all for your lovely comments on yesterday's post. You were very sympathetic, kind and flattering, and I appreciated it :)

Floral dress: vintage, from my mom
Blue and green wedges: Nine West from Nordstrom Rack
Gigantic hat: Columbia Sportswear
Blue belt: free from my aunt
Blue bracelet: B. Lee Designs, gift from my aunt

I looked too funny and horrible in this photo not to share it...this is what happens when someone whistles at me while we're taking outfit photos...

  1. yeah, I have a lot of things in my sewing pile... i actually made an attempt at it last weekend but succeeded in finishing nothing.

Still a very cute dress, and I love the hat. I've been ignoring my floppy one this summer. it's too big for anywhere but the beach.

  4. OMG I just literally laughed out loud at your last photo. That is the same kind of response I have too, followed by a middle finger and prepping my pepper spray. LOL

I don't think this outfit is too much at all. I love the bright print on the dress, the hat is the PERFECT size (I never wear sunblock either . . . and I doubt half the people that say they do actually do . . .) and of course I love your sandals.

  5. oh, that sweet ole' sunblock. I have to put on a fresh layer of the stuff every 1 to 2 hours when I'm out in the sun, but honestly, I maybe put it on once a day :) It's so sticky, haha! Also, i really like the fun floral pint on your dress! So whimsy! x

    1. Hey, at least you wear sunblock every day! I'm impressed. You have such fair skin, you probably burn really easily, huh?

  7. That last photo is awesome. And I love the color and print on this dress. I wouldn't say you need to take it up six inches though; I think just above the knee would be good too.

  8. Oh I love huge enormous hats! I wore one to church a few weeks ago and felt bad for the people behind me because I was sitting in the 3rd row! But I got lots of compliments on it. I love the last photo too - extreme blogging!
