Impractical footwear

I know in yesterday's post I said Oregon wasn't going to get bare-leg weather anytime soon, but the day after we took yesterday's photos it hit 52 degrees, and that was just warm enough for me to want to bust out my cropped pants and a pair of open-toed shoes.

These shoes are fun, but they're definitely not for everyone. When I got them in the mail (last year) and opened the box I gasped, more out of horror than anything else. They were huge. (Heel-wise, not size-wise.) And I put them on my feet and felt like I could topple over at any moment. I spent a few hours that day wondering if I should send them back, but then I decided that I should allow myself to own at least one pair of fun, impractical shoes. (That was before I started my current shoe collection. Now I have about a dozen pairs of fun, impractical shoes.) So I kept them, and the more I wore them, the more I got used to the 6-inch heels and 2-inch platforms. I've heard people online scoff at bloggers who wear shoes like this; they think we just put them on for photos and then take them right off. Well, I don't know about any of you other 6-inch-platform-owners out there, but I actually wear these a lot (mostly during warm weather) - to parties, dinner dates, church, and even just around the house if I want to feel fancy. And sure, I can't wear them for more than about three hours at a time, but I wasn't planning on wearing them for an eight-hour workday anyway :) What about you guys? Are you into crazy, impractical shoes, or do you go for the more sensible ones?

  1. I love these cropped trousers of yours Stacey - they are your signature style I think! I too have a lot of what's considered impractical shoes... but I sit at a desk all day so it's not a problem. I also wear them round the house now and then to feel fancy - you're not alone there!!

    1. Yeah, I figure I might as well wear all the crazy shoes I can right now, because I know a day will come (even if it is still a few decades away!) where my body will not be able to handle them anymore :)

    1. I'm pretty tall too, but for some reason I just feel drawn to high heels! My husband hates it sometimes because I end up being taller than him!

    1. You should try looking at asos.com - I know they make a pair similar to this one. Also, I think Jeffrey Campbell has a pair of shoes like this too.

  5. I've got a few pairs of impractical shoes, but I justify them by the fact I work in an office and sit all day so I can wear them without killing my feet too much. Walking anywhere in them is out of the question though haha. I absolutely love the colour of that sweater!

  6. i just have to say, i love everything about this outfit! my favorite pair of shoes has a 5 inch wedge and a 1 inch platform, and although i've gotten some comments from people who don't like them, i have to say that i look forward to wearing them! sometimes it's fun to have/wear things that stand out!

  7. Yes, I have super crazy blogger shoes - the JC Spendids. I actually think that EVERYONE does in fact have those shoes. or the JCs. or both. Seems like it anyway.

I can wear mine for doing most things, but I'm not crazy about driving in them. I've done it, but I wouldn't do it again. Good thing driving barefoot isn't illegal in CT (I've checked).

Also, inspired by you, I bought a pair of leopard pants in the thrift store today. I was unsure if they looked okay, but I just thought that if you could wear them, and we have so many other common pieces of clothing, that maybe they'd be cool. They were $2, so not really a big commitment.

That said, I love this look!

  8. Impractical or not, Dany's are RAD. If my boyfriend and I weren't the same height, I would own them in 2 colors. :/ jealous.
