Hair tie faux pas

One of the annoying things about taking photos for a fashion blog is that sometimes you spend five minutes in front of the mirror making sure the brim of your hat is tipped at just the right angle, and then you end up leaving your hair tie around your wrist in photos. Whoops.

I feel like I have a pretty substantial collection of hats (twelve, as soon as this baby arrives in the mail), and yet I could not find one that coordinated with this outfit in a satisfactory way. All my hats are neutral colors (black, brown, gray, cream), but I think I need to start adding in some reds and blues. I went with the gray hat, which doesn't look too bad, but I think a dark blue hat would have looked better. What are your thoughts on the matter?

  3. My dad always used to say to me that I should have been "a hat model" (daft old man, love him) - I can say the same for you, you always look fabulous in hats!! I love these jewel colours too, the skirt is a great find!

  4. I have definitely become a hat lover. I have about 10, but I'd like more. I don't really have the space for them, which is an issue.
I think colored hats are so fun too!
I can not wait to see your scalloped one however - that looks awesome!

  6. I think the gray is a good choice with these colors but a blue hat with a green clip would be better. I, too have a lot of neural hats. When you are looking at dropping $50 plus on a hat you want to be sure you can wear it with more than one outfit.

I following things have made my hat collection colorfully better:

    1) Find a good hat store. My favorite, Mostly Hats @ SeaSide OR. They have trendy, crazy and practical all under $35 so you can boldly buy color and see if it works.

2)Get silk flowers or big brooches that can be pined to the hat and tie in a color you are wearing.

3)Note the shade (shades in your case, Stacey) of color you have the most of in your closet. That's the color of your next favorite hat.

People do a double take at my head when I wear a hat so each one has to look good with my skin tone and have a shape that flatters my face. If the color makes my eye pop, it's an added bonus. Once I found the perfect hat, $100 and it came in black and green. I bought the black one. To this day, I think of the green hat as the one that got away......
