The magic of hemming

Welcome to round 2 of my Sam Edelman wedges! I went vintage again because these shoes lend themselves so easily to that style. I pulled out this dress after work and just felt bored by the length. It used to hit right at the widest part of my calves and was just not flattering. I've been wearing this dress for years while feeling unsatisfied with the length, so I whipped out my sewing machine this afternoon and hemmed it up about eight inches. Now it feels so fresh! The dress I wore yesterday was also hemmed. (Worn here un-hemmed.) Now both dresses feel so much more wearable - isn't it amazing what a little hemming can do?!

So what's everyone up to over the weekend? I'm looking forward to visiting the farmer's market, and maybe going swimming in my parents' pool!

Dress: vintage, thrifted, hemmed by me
Shoes: Sam Edelman from Piperlime
Bag: thrifted from Rerun
Scarf (worn as belt): gift from my dad
Earrings: free from aunt
Bracelet: Charlotte Russe

  3. I have always admired the earrings, this dress was made to be their match. I want one of each! I think I need the shoe too.... I have not really been grabbed by the bag, I might just have to meet it in person to decide if I like it. It may be beautiful on the inside.

  4. I found you through weardrobe! Oh the dress is beautiful and I think you did the absolute right thing by hemming it. I find that length is my main problem with vintage dresses and am always begging others to hem them for me (as I am utterly useless at sewing!). I really like all your cute accessories too.

  6. Yes, the new length is so much better! I like to keep hemlines above the knee, i think it's so much more flattering.
