Underdressed

On Saturday I went to a Portland blogger meetup. It was fun to finally meet a bunch of girls whose blogs I've been following, and to chat with other Portland bloggers that I didn't know about. I really wish I had stepped up my game in the outfit department, though. While the outfit I wore was cute and functional (I walked down to the meetup, so I needed flat shoes), pretty much every girl there was way better dressed than I was. I felt kind of embarrassed for a while, because I was one of a handful of people there with a style blog and I showed up in...well, jeans and a t-shirt. I've had my moments of being overdressed (this outfit comes to mind), but I'm rarely underdressed, and it felt weird. I got over my embarrassment eventually, though, and really enjoyed a few hours of socializing with some lovely ladies.

  1. You still had on a pretty awesome causal outfit though, and if you are going to do jeans and a tee, that is how you do it!
glad you had fun at the meet up - what no pics from it??

  2. I can totally relate to feeling like jeans and a t-shirt isn't enough, but you look fabulous and stylish. I wouldn't dream of wearing those bold colors, so go you!

  3. Sounds like a very fun time indeed! You look very polished in this casual outfit nonetheless and you look great!

  4. It is certainly a cute outfit, but I feel you on being underdressed. I have nightmares about being underdressed. I would rather be waay over-dressed than even a little underdressed.

This was a lesson my parents imparted on me at a young age. When I was about 12 we went to a family friend's very casual, Hawaiian-themed wedding. But, since it was a wedding, my mother insisted that I wear a nice black dress and sparkly sweater and nice shoes. When we got there and the groom was wearing a Tommy Bahama shirt, I was pretty pissed. But it was a good lesson: being overdressed for an occasion is always the way to go. :)

    That said, you look darling.

  5. I love the outfit! I tend to lean towards overdressed because I never have an occasion to dress up in college. My classmates will be in sweatpants and I'll be in skirts and dresses, fun stuff.

Also, I had a picnic in Jamison Square with some of my new classmates the first day I moved to Portland this last summer :) It made me smile to see it in the picture, good memories. It's a cool place for an outfit photo, too :)
