Repeat offender

I wore this outfit on Sunday to a baby shower, but forgot that it was going to get dark earlier due to Daylight Savings Time, and when my mom snapped photos of it they didn't really turn out. So I just wore it again on Monday so I could get better photos. I know there are people who think it's really gross to wear the same thing two days in a row, but it doesn't bug me much. A few years back I lived in China, and my students and the other teachers at my school would wear the exact same thing for five days in a row. If everyone does it you get used to it, and it stops being weird as long as you make sure to shower, put on deodorant and change your undergarments every day. That being said, I would pretty much never wear the same outfit two days in a row in America, unless it was a totally awesome outfit and I knew I wasn't going to see the same people on both days. How do you guys feel about this? Is it a big "no" to be a repeat outfit offender, or are you okay with it?

(PS - Did you guys notice my hair color?! When I dye my hair it never turns out to look exactly like the color on the box - but this time it did! And it's intense. Also, apparently my hair is so thick and long that one box of dye doesn't cut it anymore. I need to pick up another box to finish dyeing the ends!)

Underdressed

On Saturday I went to a Portland blogger meetup. It was fun to finally meet a bunch of girls whose blogs I've been following, and to chat with other Portland bloggers that I didn't know about. I really wish I had stepped up my game in the outfit department, though. While the outfit I wore was cute and functional (I walked down to the meetup, so I needed flat shoes), pretty much every girl there was way better dressed than I was. I felt kind of embarrassed for a while, because I was one of a handful of people there with a style blog and I showed up in...well, jeans and a t-shirt. I've had my moments of being overdressed (this outfit comes to mind), but I'm rarely underdressed, and it felt weird. I got over my embarrassment eventually, though, and really enjoyed a few hours of socializing with some lovely ladies.

Alpine

When I put on this outfit Josh said, "You look like you're going to go hiking in the Alps." I knew what he meant. Although this outfit would be entirely impractical for hiking, it does kind of look like something a woman from the 1940's would have worn at an Alpine ski lodge. ("Kind of" being the operative phrase there - I have a feeling women from the 1940's didn't embrace the dorkiness that is slouchy socks worn with tights, or blazers with sleeves that aren't long enough. But I bet they would have worn skirts like this one - and that may just be where the similarities end.)

Pleats and lace

Josh and I have outfit photos down to a science now. I do all my standard poses (head to the side, head and body to the side, facing forwards, smiling, not smiling, hand on hip, detail shots), and we get it done in about five minutes, with fifty photos or less. But when I take photos on my own (like these) with a remote and tripod, it's like I forget everything I've learned. I end up taking multiple photos in a row looking down at my feet or adjusting my belt. I press the remote for a picture while scratching my head. I take five photos before I realize that I look grumpy or I'm staring at a bird flying by. (Seriously. It's like my hand is so happy to hold a remote that it presses the button regardless of whether I'm actually posing.) And it takes me twenty minutes and I end up with about two hundred pictures. Ridiculous.

Anyway, moving on to my outfit...

I got this skirt at H&M the other day for thirteen dollars. I couldn't believe the price. I've been looking for a pleated skirt for practically the whole of 2011, but all the ones I've found have been forty or fifty dollars. So I snatched this one right up, and wore it with my lace dress (also worn here) tucked into it to tone down the shocking vividness. And then I added a spider necklace, just to be a little kooky :)

Hello, sweet pants

Oh. These. Pants. I went down to Anthropologie the other day because, well, it's ten minutes away and I had a bunch of extra cash, and saw these high-waisted corduroy pants on the sale rack. I'd read all the reviews online months ago, and they sounded like fantastic pants, so even though the only pair they had left in the store was a size too big, I tried them on anyway, and they fit! I think I'm starting to prefer high-waisted pants to any other kind. Because I have a rather roomy backside, I have a tough time finding pants that cover my whole butt (skinny jeans, I'm talking to you), and don't expose any skin when I bend over. That problem is solved with high-waisted pants, though! Plus, these cords make my butt look incredible. Josh may have arrived home the other day to me standing in front of the mirror staring at my own backside. (Narcissistic much?)

PS - Did anyone get the Friends reference in the title?! It's one of my favorite Chandler Bing quotes :)

Little Red Robin Hood

This hat makes me feel a little bit like Robin Hood. (Except I guess his hat would have been green.) I kind of love how odd it is, with the orange feather sticking off the side. While I do wear some interesting hats, I don't normally go for ones this quirky. I couldn't resist it, though, when I saw it at the antiques show this past weekend at the Expo Center. And then when I saw this shirt (also at the antiques show) I knew they would be perfect together. The only thing I wish I had done differently was the tights - I think red would have looked better. Or do you think red tights would have just been too much?

Spikes and stripes

If you can't wear a shirt with pointy shoulders on Halloween, when can you wear it? (Maybe to a Lady Gaga concert?) I've had this shirt for a year or two - I found it at Urban Outfitters, and grabbed it without realizing what the shoulders looked like. I just liked the stripes. I bought it anyway, and every other time I've worn it I've pinned the spiky shoulders down. But yesterday I thought - why not? I took off the safety pins, and wore this shirt as nature...er, Urban Outfitters...intended it.
