The clash

One day back in high school I wore brown pants and a purple sweater to school. As far as I can recall, they looked good together, but a friend of mine came up to me and said, "You can't wear brown and purple together!" I felt so embarrassed that ever since then, I haven't worn those colors together.

Then over the summer I tried to wear a red and pink outfit, and Josh said those colors don't go together. So I didn't wear them. But then the other day I saw Catherine seriously rocking the red and pink combo, and I thought, "Why not? Fashion rules are for wimps." So I put on my brightest red and pink, and felt quite delighted with the combo. And sure, Josh still didn't like it (and I'm still not sure if it clashes or not), but I felt very happy and Valentines Day-ish, and a lot of people on the street stared at me, which is a sure sign that I'm doing something interesting :)

  1. I've always believed that pink and red go together - I mean, they are two shades of the same color, why shouldn't they?

  2. I do truly love this combination of colors. The necklace also looks incredible against the almost coral of the shirt. Way to go, brave woman!

  4. I LOVE this! I always feel like a walking Valentine when I do pink and red together, but it's such a pretty combo, I don't mind! And the black accessories and bad-ass boots keep it from being too sweet!

  5. Sooooo gorgeous, the red and pink look beautiful with your new hair colour and the contrast of black! I'm so chuffed you were inspired by my outfit - what a massive compliment!!!

I have a "inspired by Gray Skies" outfit planned for sometime soon (I know exactly what I'll be wearing, you'll have to wait and see ;)

  6. I think red and pink look great together. I also love pink and orange. Interestingly, my boy doesn't like either of those combinations either. :)

When I was 16 I got my first pair of knee-high leather boots for my birthday. They were Nine West and had wonderful pointy toes and a modest but still sexy 2.5" heel. I had never owned anything so exquisite. I wore them to school the very next day and this girl came up to me and asked me, loudly and to my face, "Why in the HELL would you wear such ugly boots in public?" It took me years to wear those boots again, or any boots, really.

But now, I wear boots all the time. I finally realized that not everyone is going to like every outfit, and that's a good thing. At least I'm not boring, right!? :)
